Basic Installers Course

ATRRS School Code 829, Course Number 829-SQII

The BIC originated in the early 1960s, when it was set up as a basic 1-week course to familiarize future installers with a few skills they might require on an installation job. As the years passed and the installers ran into more complex signal systems in the field, the course expanded to 6 weeks and evolved to meet the needs of installers and users.

The BIC currently provides the expertise to restore or install critical pieces of information systems anywhere in the world. The U.S. Army NETCOM/9th SC (A), G-3, Training & Integration Branch currently operate the Basic Installers Course, instructing DOD military and civilian personnel. While primarily serving DOD personnel, BIC is available to other government organizations and government contractors on a space available basis. .

At present, the BIC covers more than 30 subjects of communications-electronics (C-E) installation standard practices and techniques. As new techniques and equipment enter the field, they are added to the course curriculum. The Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) recognizes the BIC School, and completion of the course results in award of the special qualification identifier (SQI) "I" to Army personnel.

The course provides 240 hours of training - 46 hours of theory and 194 hours of hands-on practical exercise. Class attendance is very competitive and classes normally fill up several months in advance.
